SIMPLE, QUICK AND HAND MADE BY CRAFTSMEN

Microtopping is produced by craftsmanship, quick to apply and quite simple to handle.  Nevertheless, the presence of an Ideal Work expert is required to ensure a perfect result. The materials that make up Microtopping are mixed by hand before each individual application and this is the reason it is vital to know the right “formula” in order to obtain a finished product of quality. There are numerous technical aspects to be taken into consideration that an installer is taught through many hours of training.

THE APPLICATION STAGES

Microtopping is applied in various stages. You can rest assured that only qualified Ideal Work personnel carry out the work. Surfaces will be treated differently depending on the type and conditions of the existing base (concrete, sand-cement, tiles, self-levelling concrete); those assigned to the work must use the materials specified and follow precise techniques of finishing and setting out.

Preparation of the base

  • The surface, whatever the material, is prepared and smoothed in advance;
  • Repair of any damaged parts (cracks, holes, depressions…);
  • Depending on the type and condition of the existing base, one or more coats of Epoxy coat or Barriera-cem;
  • Cleaning of the surface.

Microtopping system application

  • Application of Microtopping Base Coat  (First coat);
  • Once this has dried, sand the surfaces and remove the dust;
  • Application of Microtopping Base Coat  (Second coat);
  • Once this has dried, sand the surfaces and remove the dust;
  • Application of Microtopping Finish Coat (First coat);
  • Once this has dried, sand the surfaces and remove the dust;
  • If required, application of a second coat of Microtopping Finish Coat;
  • Once this has dried, sand the surfaces and remove the dust;
  • After a few days, the application of a protective resin is recommended. The type of resin will be chosen depending on the traffic, intended use of the surface and place of application. Amongst the resins we recommend are Ideal Sealer, Ideal PU WB and Ideal Pu78.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR MAINTENANCE

There are certain initial precautions that can prove to be very effective in keeping Microtopping floors in a good condition:

  • Provide a doormat at the entrance that can trap dust, sand and abrasive particles;
  • Regularly use a broom or vacuum cleaner;
  • Put felt pads under furniture, especially moveable articles like chairs;
  • In the event that heavy furniture has to be moved, the placing of woollen cloths under the feet or base of the furniture is recommended in order to avoid unsightly scratches;
  • Before carrying out painting, electrical and plumbing works, removals and shifting furniture, protect the floor with cardboard, woollen blankets and sheets of nylon;

Here are other recommendations and suggestions in order to keep the Microtopping floor looking beautiful and clean:

  • Cleaning a Microtopping floor is very simple: just wipe the surface to be cleaned with a damp cloth, with the addition of a little neutral, non-foaming detergent for floors;
  • It may be wise to periodically treat the internal surface with protective products based on sacrificial, self-polishing waxes dispersed in water (for example, Ideal Cera).   Only Ph-neutral, non-aggressive detergents are recommended, such as Ideal Work’s product Perfetto! (link), a suitable concentrated detergent for decorative surfaces;
  • Even if the resin treatment protects the flooring from the rapid penetration of accidentally spilled liquids, it should be remembered that all liquids, especially those most commonly found in the domestic environment, such as wine, oils, vinegar and coffee, must be removed quickly from all Microtopping surfaces before they can penetrate to any depth.

LEARN HOW TO APPLY MICROTOPPING AND BECOME AN IDEAL WORK PARTNER

We succeeded in becoming a leading company in Europe for decorative concrete floors thanks to our contractors, who are the best available. To keep them updated and informed, we periodically organise training with specialised staff.
Training includes a theoretical element which offers the basics on Microtopping technology and a practical part where all the attendees can make real samples of Microtopping, giving them the opportunity to test products and equipment. We believe in training you, because that’s the basis of our success.

Ideal Work training courses take place in our Head Office in Vallà di Riese Pio X (TV) – Italy, in a dedicated and fully equipped 400 SQM room. At the end of each training event you will receive a certificate of attendance and all sales, marketing and technical literature .
We wish to remind you that all our training events are limited and aimed exclusively to contractors or people who are already working in the building industry. They are not for private users.

To join our training events, please visit the training course area on the Ideal Work website.

If water, oil or other substances are spilled on it, will Microtopping stain?

Ideal Work offers a very wide range of protective sealers. The choice of protection depends on the requirements of the end customer and intended use of the surface. There are solvent and water based products available.
Even though the resin treatment protects the flooring from rapid penetration of accidentally spilled liquids, it is well to remember that all liquid substances, especially those most used in the domestic environment such as wine, oils, vinegar and coffee, must be eliminated quickly from all Microtopping surfaces before they can penetrate to any depth.

How can a perfect appearance be maintained over time?

Certain effective precautions are recommended:
a) provide a doormat at the entry to the house that can retain dust, sand and abrasive particles;
b) sweep or vacuum regularly;
c) use protective felt under furniture, especially under furniture that is often moved, such as chairs;
d) in the event it is necessary to move heavy furniture, it is recommended to place woollen cloth under the feet or base of furniture to avoid ugly lines;
e) before carrying out painting, electrical jobs, plumbing, moving and handling furniture, protect the floor with cardboard, woollen blankets and nylon sheets;

How do you keep a Microtopping surface clean?

Cleaning a Microtopping floor is very simple. A damp cloth is sufficient to clean the surfaces, with the addition of a little neutral detergent for floors (for example PERFETTO! Ideal Work: a specific detergent for decorative Ideal Work surfaces).
It is recommended to periodically treat internal surfaces with protective products based on self-polishing, sacrificial waxes dispersed in water (for example, Ideal Cera) or beeswax (for example, Ideal Cera) or beeswax (for example, EASY WAX). Detergents based on soap, acid, ammonia, chlorine or any abrasive detergent product are absolutely prohibited. It is recommended to use only NON AGGRESSIVE, neutral PH detergents.

Who should I contact to create a Microtopping suface?

The contacts form on the Ideal Work website (link) will directly identify the authorised installer in your area. It is very important to assign the work to a specialised Ideal Work installer in order to obtain a quality result. Ideal Work trains its own installers through periodic courses, held by specialised personnel, for the twin purpose of training new installers who want to begin to install the products and improving and updating the techniques of those who already use them.

Can I buy the material directly from the company and apply it without using an installer?

In order to guarantee a high qualitative standard in architectural construction, Ideal Work markets its products only through companies that have taken part in the training courses organised by the company. The techniques for creating an Ideal Work system require certain basic concepts that are fundamental to obtaining beautiful and long-lasting surfaces. Applying Ideal Work products without adequate training could mean creating a work that does not meet the qualitative standards demanded by Ideal Work itself. Moreover, buying the equipment for a single job is simply not economical.

Who can take part in the training courses and how can I enrol?

The training courses are reserved exclusively to companies or those employed in the building sector or decorating in general. The courses are not open to private clients or hobbyists. To find out how to take part, please consult the COURSES section of the site (Link to courses).
