Microtopping has been subjected to rigorous laboratory trials in order to test the performance and identify any weak points. The results demonstrate that Microtopping has properties of resistance even greater than normal resin for floors (already considered extremely resistant). Microtopping’s resistance has been tested with mechanical and thermal stresses and against marks, impact, wear and tear, fire, cracks, chemical and corrosive substances. Microtopping’s impermeability has also been repeatedly tested and has achieved excellent results, even insulating against steam.

Due to its superior technical specifications, Microtopping is also suitable for laying over underfloor heating: it has good thermal conductivity which enables it to heat up very quickly, accelerating the process of heat radiation. The more the material conducts heat, the less the energy consumption: this means that your home will warm up much quicker and you will see the savings on your energy bill.



Microtopping is a healthy choice.

Living in a healthy environment means using products that do not release harmful substances in the places where they are applied. This is why Microtopping is a “healthy” choice. The strict UNI EN ISO 16000-9:2006 tests demonstrated that Microtopping does not emit any volatile organic compounds (VOC), awarding it an A+ rating, which is the maximum possible.




Excellent conductivity for reducing energy consumption.

When using underfloor heating, thermal conductivity is important. Microtopping has double the Lambda value (λ=0.46) of a wooden surface. The Lamba coefficient measures the capacity of a material to transmit heat. A high Lambda value corresponds to high thermal conductivity, less consumption and, as a consequence, better performance from the heating equipment.



Microtopping is also resistant to the harshest chemical agents.

Continuous and without grouting, Microtopping is easy and quick to clean. A wipe with a damp cloth with the addition of a little neutral, non-foaming detergent is enough to clean the surface.  Moreover, various tests have shown that Microtopping is resistant to the various chemical agents contained in many products in common use.

Thanks to Microtopping’s craftsmanship application process, it is possible to choose the perfect grade of finish for your project. Smooth for interior flooring, rougher when a greater degree of slip-resistance is required, for exteriors or pool decks, for example.



Water and steam are not a problem.

By selecting the right protective resin, Microtopping can become a product with high impermeability, perfect for bathrooms and showers. In fact, in determining the depth of water penetration under pressure, Microtopping demonstrated the complete absence of penetration.



Microtopping is flame and smoke resistant.

Microtopping attained an excellent classification for flame resistance (European class A2FL) and smoke resistance (class S1). This allows it to be used in almost all civil and commercial locations.




Microtopping is resistant to the hardest of blows.

In a test in which a mass was dropped on the floor, Microtopping was assessed “Class 3 – IR>20” which is the equivalent of a 1 kg sphere falling from a height of 2 metres. Sample intact following the impact.





You can be sure with Microtopping.

The material that most lends itself to comparison with Microtopping is wood. However, Microtopping is greatly superior in terms of resistance to scratches, impact and wear and tear. Numerous tests carried out in accordance with various European regulations have demonstrated the unique features of Microtopping.




No scratches, not even under stress.

We rolled a chair with W-type wheels and soft polyurethane tread with a 90 kg load over a Microtopping floor 25,000 times.  The result of the test was “no visible defect”.






Microtopping is twice as resistant as wood.

We drove a steel sphere with a diameter of 10mm into Microtopping laid on a concrete base by applying a 1000N load. The result of the test was 9.6 kg/mm², more than double that of a high resistance wooden floor (4.51 kg/mm²).



Microtopping adheres to every surface.

Due to its polymeric formula, Microtopping enables greater adhesion than that of traditional adhesives for floor laying, ensuring absolute safety. Indeed, the so-called “tear test” produced results higher than 2.5 Nmm².

Microtopping is more elastic than concrete.

Unlike traditional materials (tiles, marble and concrete), Microtopping has elasticity properties that enable it to undergo slight deformation before cracking. This allows it to be applied to special bases, for example, wooden surfaces.

Is Microtopping certified?

In addition to being an EC certified product, Microtopping has been subjected to multiple tests which led to the following results.

Is a Microtopping floor safe for health?

Yes. Strict tests demonstrate that, after the application and drying phases, Microtopping does not release substances into the air that may be harmful to adults and children.

Are the surfaces resistant to tread and impacts?

Tests show the high resistance of Microtopping to various stresses. The surface resistance is greater than that of wood. It is appropriate to observe some tips on the maintenance of the surface. See the FAQ: “How to maintain a perfect appearance over time”

What can the resistance of Microtopping be compared to?

Microtopping has specifications similar to those of a top of the range wooden floor.
This material has excellent resistance and is suitable for use as floor and wall coating.
However, Microtopping is not comparable with ceramic surfaces, which is a very different material and involves very different production processes.

Can Microtopping surfaces be scratched?

All surfaces, even the most resistant, can be scratched. Think of steel (the bodywork of cars) that is easily scratched when subjected to stress with sharp objects. As with all surfaces, these scratches will be most apparent on very shiny and smooth surfaces. For this reason, we recommend an opaque finish and a more material effect. To get rid of scratches, extraordinary maintenance can be carried out, as with wooden surfaces.

Can accidental falls of heavy objects ruin the coating?

Yes, heavy, sharp objects can mark Microtopping surfaces.

At only 3 mm thick, can Microtopping be used on exterior surfaces that support automobile and heavy vehicle traffic?

Absolutely, yes; Microtopping has high resistance to abrasion and is also recommended for constructing access ramps, car parks and driveways. In these cases, only the Microtopping Base Coat version is applied, which also ensures the material is slip-resistant. Also, remember that the resistance to vehicular traffic is given by the thickness of the base or supporting slab. When restoring old flooring, it will be wise to check the conditions and find out the thickness of the support.

I would like to coat a fireplace and a kitchen top: is Microtopping heat resistant?

Test of heat resistance carried out on the material obtained excellent results (link to tests). Microtopping was heated to a temperature of 115°C without displaying any defects. However, it is inadvisable to lay boiling objects directly on the surface so suitable heat resistant mats should be used. Moreover, in the case of kitchen tops, it is recommended to use a suitable chopping board, avoiding cutting or chopping directly on the top.

Can I apply Microtopping in the bathroom, for example in a shower cubicle or bath or washbasin?

Certainly. Microtopping is suitable for these types of application because it provides good protection against water penetration. In the restoration or refurbishment of existing surfaces, an appropriate assessment is required by the installer as well as adequate preparation of the base.
