MICROTOPPING TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Microtopping has been subjected to rigorous laboratory trials in order to test the performance and identify any weak points. The results demonstrate that Microtopping has properties of resistance even greater than normal resin for floors (already considered extremely resistant). Microtopping’s resistance has been tested with mechanical and thermal stresses and against marks, impact, wear and tear, fire, cracks, chemical and corrosive substances. Microtopping’s impermeability has also been repeatedly tested and has achieved excellent results, even insulating against steam.
Due to its superior technical specifications, Microtopping is also suitable for laying over underfloor heating: it has good thermal conductivity which enables it to heat up very quickly, accelerating the process of heat radiation. The more the material conducts heat, the less the energy consumption: this means that your home will warm up much quicker and you will see the savings on your energy bill.
Is Microtopping certified?
In addition to being an EC certified product, Microtopping has been subjected to multiple tests which led to the following results.
Is a Microtopping floor safe for health?
Yes. Strict tests demonstrate that, after the application and drying phases, Microtopping does not release substances into the air that may be harmful to adults and children.
Are the surfaces resistant to tread and impacts?
Tests show the high resistance of Microtopping to various stresses. The surface resistance is greater than that of wood. It is appropriate to observe some tips on the maintenance of the surface. See the FAQ: “How to maintain a perfect appearance over time”
What can the resistance of Microtopping be compared to?
Microtopping has specifications similar to those of a top of the range wooden floor.
This material has excellent resistance and is suitable for use as floor and wall coating.
However, Microtopping is not comparable with ceramic surfaces, which is a very different material and involves very different production processes.
Can Microtopping surfaces be scratched?
All surfaces, even the most resistant, can be scratched. Think of steel (the bodywork of cars) that is easily scratched when subjected to stress with sharp objects. As with all surfaces, these scratches will be most apparent on very shiny and smooth surfaces. For this reason, we recommend an opaque finish and a more material effect. To get rid of scratches, extraordinary maintenance can be carried out, as with wooden surfaces.
Can accidental falls of heavy objects ruin the coating?
Yes, heavy, sharp objects can mark Microtopping surfaces.
At only 3 mm thick, can Microtopping be used on exterior surfaces that support automobile and heavy vehicle traffic?
Absolutely, yes; Microtopping has high resistance to abrasion and is also recommended for constructing access ramps, car parks and driveways. In these cases, only the Microtopping Base Coat version is applied, which also ensures the material is slip-resistant. Also, remember that the resistance to vehicular traffic is given by the thickness of the base or supporting slab. When restoring old flooring, it will be wise to check the conditions and find out the thickness of the support.
I would like to coat a fireplace and a kitchen top: is Microtopping heat resistant?
Test of heat resistance carried out on the material obtained excellent results (link to tests). Microtopping was heated to a temperature of 115°C without displaying any defects. However, it is inadvisable to lay boiling objects directly on the surface so suitable heat resistant mats should be used. Moreover, in the case of kitchen tops, it is recommended to use a suitable chopping board, avoiding cutting or chopping directly on the top.
Can I apply Microtopping in the bathroom, for example in a shower cubicle or bath or washbasin?
Certainly. Microtopping is suitable for these types of application because it provides good protection against water penetration. In the restoration or refurbishment of existing surfaces, an appropriate assessment is required by the installer as well as adequate preparation of the base.
